Should U.S. Senators and Representatives have their own special retirement and health plans?
Clueless About Football asked:
Is it because they are TOO GOOD for regular social security and health care like regular folks? Why did we let this motley crew get away with this outrage?

Comments on Should U.S. Senators and Representatives have their own special retirement and health plans?
Marlon
nope…..they get away with it because we are really not in charge ….
Owen
They do…and some people are dumb enough to side with the Repubs when it comes to no public…when the repubs and democract senators get free health care anyways
Erica
Yes they should. The plan will be, putting them on small rafts and pushing them out into the ocean.
Albert
No!
Gabriella
Nope and get rid of their “voting” on their own pay raises, guaranteed every year by the way.
Trystan
Emphatically NO!
If it’s good enough for “them” it should be good enough for us, and visa-versa.

If we are to allow the members of our government to be a special ruling class then, of course, we have to expect them to treat themselves
differently ( better) than the rest of us.
Our founding fathers did not anticipate a ruling class and made specific provision to prevent such a thing from happening.
It has happened however and as long as we keep relecting the same corrupt, power hungry cretins we deserve what we get.
ROYALTY.
Cecelia
Nope but they treat themselves very well..
Douglas
They should have to do what regular folks want other folks to do, if you can afford health care then you have it and if you can’t then ***** you. That is what many people are saying.*
Hazel
No, and they don’t have special plans.
You can’t “retire” from an elected position.
And lawmakers have the same kind of health care as all other government employees. It’s a very good plan because obviously the government will take care of its workers.
Stop Spending Our Money - Read the 27th Amendment of the Constitution. Pay raises do not come into effect until after an election - lawmakers are never guaranteed an election or a pay raise and in fact do not raise their pay very often.
Eileen
when we get National Health Care they should get the Same coverage the rest of us do !!!!
Lillian
Since Obama is changing America’s healthcare, I suppose
we should ALL be subject to the same new coverage in his
plan, including Senators and Representatives. If it’s good
enough for all citizens, that should include those who work
for the government also. No special plans for this group and
that group.
Carmen
They should get the same retirement and health care plan as the retired Military in my opinion.
When asked about it on ABC they ignored the question all together. President Obama also ignored the question.

There are so many outrages committed by members of the U.S. CONgress that it’s really difficult to maintain one’s cool. How long the American public stays cool is anyone’s guess.

One of George Washington’s arguments in favor of representative government (everyone was cautious of remote representatives because we couldn’t watch them) was that when their term(s) ended they would return to ordinary society and this would always keep them straight because they were there only temporarily and would be kept ‘grounded’ by maintaining their status as ordinary folks.
He would have been shocked to find that they had exempted themselves from any law they passed or gave themselves special privileges.
How do they get away with it? WE LET THEM DO IT by failing to exercise supervision and oversight over our employees.
Chase
no, but in this way the new nobility rises. tomorrow they’ll ask to be honored like kings

Since almost all U.S. Senators and Representatives leave office (if they ever do) as multimillionaires, you have to ask where does that money come from? It comes from lobbyists who bribe them to vote in a certain way. Thus, they no longer serve the interests of the American people. Instead they feather their own nests and say, “To H*ll with voters!”
