Do the most uneducated people and inner city or unemployed people buy the most lottery tickets?

OceanBlue0910 asked:

I heard a radio program where the host stated that black people buy the most lottery tickets instead of investing into a retirement plan. . How do I convince my relatives to invest into retirement instead of spending an insane amount of money on lottery tickets. Credit card bills are unpaid but yet they buy lottery tickets. Why is this?

They buy lottery tickets in hopes of winning it big…It’s a gambling addiction obviously when one spends money on lottery tickets instead of paying off their debts.

Well, well off suburbanites and townies don’t really need that small spark of hope do they?

Sorry, I can’t find the source but I read a study that it is mostly middle class people that buy lotto tickets. The lowest rates of purchase were in the highest and lowest income groups. This makes sense, the rich don’t need to and the poor can’t afford to. But there is propaganda by the anti-gambling lobby that gambling is a problem for poor people.

As for convincing your relatives. I am assuming that you have wisely invested your own spare money. Why not show them the returns your own investments have made. Results are usually a better way to convince people of an argument.

If you heard such a blanket statement on the radio about a particular social group involving itself in some type of less than normal-risk activity, it’s probably some drooling right-wing psycho who got that particular “factoid” by pulling it out of his ***. It’s a ridiculously stupid statement on its face.

Rock, there is some truth to that. I have lived and traveled in many cities, and I have seen many low income people buying tickets. I have no further comment.
