Difference between Pension and Retirement Plans?

Gaberial asked:

I am 20 years old and recently started a government job which gave me these 2 options to choose from for my retirement. I have had a tough time choosing between the two, the main reason is because I dont know the big difference between them. I don’t plan on being there more than 5 years though but I do have a child, please help!

This is for the Obama people who are indulging in the **** capitalism?

lienot asked:

game. The big insurance companies are investor owned and we who have “worked” for a living and invested our money in company retirement plans and /or IRA or stocks in general are the owners of these companies so do not expect us to line up against our own companies and our retirement plans.
“hater” having a problem understanding the question or the facts are not important to you.

What is the difference between 401K and pension?

MzKnowitall asked:

Why are older Americans who have retirement plans having trouble retiring? Does the government have control of this? When can you retire? Does anyone know about related teacher plans?
Can you start off by explaining exactly what they are and how they work?
