Does anyone else ever worry about their retirement and savings for the future?

leighrampey asked:

At what age would you consider a person has sort of missed the boat as far as ever having a carefree retirement with no financial strains if they have not previously saved for their future? The cost of living keeps increasing so shouldn’t one basically panic if they’ve never saved a dime and have no retirement plan through their employer and are already in their forties?

How do I change my birthday? I’m tired of getting general info about retirement years?

gpete909 asked:

All I get is retirement planning and info about where old people go to retire. I’m more interested in the 30-40’s lifestyle. How can I change the age reference on Yahoo?

What would you do if you had NO money for retirement?

Chloe asked:

I have a few friends in their 40s and 50s with no retirement plans whatsoever. They tell me they live check to check and every cent is spoken for. Checking account <$1000, no savings account. One is self employed so can't have employer funnel contributions before being paid.

How can they live later on? Will they be homeless, or can they get subsidized housing? What about food? Social Security is a pittance and will likely be going down, not up, so I am wondering what will happen to these people when they can't work any more.

What are some good financial retirement plans for parents after passing on family business?

Tuan T asked:

I am taking over the family business soon (Worth approx. $500,000)

My parents are worried on how they will still sustain financial freedom after passing on their company to me. It is primarily a cash business and I want for them to retire without having to worry about money. They have savings but nothing is in the bank. (Old Asian generation mentality)

I propose treating them like company board members that take a certain percentage from the business, while I keep the rest for expansion opportunities. What will be fair for both sides? Thank you.

How does money get disbursed from a retirement plan once someone has died?

Flatlander asked:

I know a death certificate is needed and I know I am a beneficiary but if there is no will, who submits all the paperwork? The closest relative? Does the plan contact me and on average how long does it take?

i did not contribute to company retirement plan or 401k. Can I contribute to IRA?

rav_sa asked:

I joined new employer in Sep,2005. I was eligible to join 401K from Nov2005. I did not contribute to 401k plan. Box 13 in my W2 (retirement plan) is checked.
I am trying to claim my $4,000 IRA contribution. Turbo tax is not giving full deduction of $4,000. It is giving only $770 deduction from my Total Income. Why do not I get $4000 IRA deduction.
Thanks inadvance.
